I moved to Bali, Indonesia in 1997 for the waves—and quickly fell in love with the place. At the time, I was a sponsored surfer, but money was never consistent. Whenever I needed cash, I’d sell whatever I had, sunglasses, a surfboard, anything just to get by. That lifestyle got old fast.
So I made a decision, I sold off most of my possessions, keeping only what truly mattered—my magic surfboards and a few pairs of boardshorts.
Next door to where I was living was a small, family-owned apparel factory. Over time, I became close with the family, and what started as simple conversations turned into a genuine friendship. When I finally saved enough money, I went to them with the idea of starting an apparel company and they helped me produce my first collection in 1998. From there, everything changed—and as they say, the rest is history.
Island Daze started as a way to survive and ended up becoming my destiny.
